About the role

The Member Relationship Officer plays a crucial role in ensuring members' financial needs are met by conducting thorough assessments and recommending appropriate products and services. This position involves generating leads, building and maintaining member relationships, and providing a high-quality member experience.

Responsibilities

  • Effective negotiation, sales, and relationship-building skills are essential.
  • Proven success in prospecting, building a pipeline, and closing on sales opportunities.
  • Identify, recommend, and sell appropriate GTE Financial products and services to foster fully engaged financial relationships.
  • Originate new members through various channels to drive credit union growth.
  • Work collaboratively within a team to develop a retention strategy for both new and existing members.
  • Generate referrals for credit union services, including investment, insurance, business services, mortgages, and more.
  • Manage the sales floor, greet members, direct them to appropriate areas, and ensure their needs are met.
  • Gather information, analyze facts, and educate members on suitable products and services to achieve one-point resolutions.
  • Demonstrate sound judgment when making decisions on loan applications, reviewing and underwriting them clearly and comprehensively.
  • Adhere to audit/compliance procedures and maintain the highest level of service to members.
  • Identify potential risks for credit union losses through observations of suspicious transactions.
  • Collaborate with Community Development Officers to strengthen community relationships and partnerships.
  • Conduct member financial transactions, including originating, processing, and closing consumer loan products.
  • Identify the right product for member needs, initiate the process, gather necessary information for processors and underwriters, and follow up with internal partners and members.
  • Ensure adherence to bank secrecy act, federal laws, and compliance regulations.
  • Participate in meetings, conference calls, and events as assigned.
  • Must demonstrate functional knowledge of the Bank Secrecy Act and other relevant federal laws, including the U.S. Patriot Act, Office of Foreign Assets Control, Anti-Money Laundering, Right to Financial Privacy Act, and the Bank Bribery Act.
  • Qualify for NMLS registration according to the Safe Act.

Requirements

  • A high school diploma or equivalent from an accredited institution.
  • Some college education preferred.
  • 1-2 years of previous experience in the financial industry or related field, or a combination of education and experience.
  • Bilingual proficiency (English/Spanish) is a plus.
