Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities

  • Provide customer service as currently defined by the employer within the scope of the position and within company policy.
  • Responsible for appropriately handling emergencies, customer complaints, employee or customer accidents and supervising all store personnel.
  • Maintains high level of familiarity with company policies and procedures.
  • Supervises the sales floor to monitor service and replenishment of products.
  • Replaces stock in displays surrounding the checkout area.
  • Affords assistance in maintaining a clean and safe work environment within the store.
  • Affords assistance to other cashiers with computer, register, and scanner problems.
  • Performs basic office functions to assist customers and personnel.
  • Operates electronically scanning cash register to total customers' final bill.
  • Accepts payment for customer purchase and counts back correct change.
  • Bags groceries in paper, canvas, or plastic bags.
  • Lifts bags into grocery cart.
  • Offers customer assistance with carry out, and performs that task if a Courtesy Clerk is not available.
  • May be responsible for completing close of day function in the office.
  • May be responsible for counting out of stock product.
  • May count tills when other cashier-checkers leave.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Related Qualifications

  • Ability to follow company customer service procedures.
  • Demonstrated prior customer service skills or related experience.
  • Ability to interact with customers and co-workers.
  • Ability to understand and follow instructions.
  • Knowledge of all positions within the store.
  • Ability to work independently.

Desired

  • Prior experience as a clerk or manager.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • All store employees during the absence of the Store Director or Assistant Store Director.

Physical Demands

  • Constant (over 70% of the time): lifting 1-10 lbs., frequently lifting 11-20 lbs., occasionally lifting 21-35 lbs., carrying 1-10 lbs., occasionally carrying 11-50 lbs., pushing/pulling 1-10 lbs., occasionally pushing/pulling 11-20 lbs., standing constantly, sitting allowed on breaks, frequent walking while on job, frequent neck rotation and bending of head, occasional bending/stooping, twisting, crouching, and squatting, seldom kneeling, constant handling/grasping and repetitive motion while checking, facing, and replacing stock, frequent fine finger manipulation, using peripheral vision and depth perception to move around store and push carts in aisles, near vision used to operate scanner, make change, and troubleshoot equipment, hearing to converse with customers, provide service, and receive questions from employees and customers, answering pages and telephone, speaking to respond to customers and employees and use intercom/telephone

Union and Non-Union

The pay range is $17.38 to $20.71 per hour, but no less than the local minimum wage. Starting rates will vary based on things like location, experience, qualifications and the terms of any applicable collective bargaining agreement. Dependent on length of service, hours worked and any applicable collective bargaining agreement, benefits include medical, dental, vision, disability and life insurance, sick pay (accrued based on hours worked), PTO/Vacation pay (accrued based on hours worked), paid holidays (9 days annually), bereavement pay, and retirement benefits (pension and/or 401k eligibility).
