About the role

Responsibilities

• Provide instructional and physical assistance to students developing foundational skills in reading, writing, and mathematics.
• Aid teachers in traditional academic programs for students on track for a diploma, addressing emotional, behavioral, and social needs.
• Assist in the instruction and assessment of students with emotional disturbances, at-risk behaviors, and other special needs.
• Support students in areas such as feeding, toileting, grooming, and appropriate social behavior in certain programs.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Substantial experience working with children, adolescents, and young adults with special developmental needs.
• Pass the LACOE written test of ability to assist in reading, writing, and mathematics.
• Complete the Los Angeles County Office of Education online workshop.
• Pass the suitability questionnaire and oral interview.

Special Requirements

• Safe Serve certification for handling and preparing students' meals (if applicable).
• Transportation availability for travel-related positions.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and use multi-person lifting techniques (if applicable).
• Attention to safety in the classroom due to students' assaultive or self-abusive tendencies.
