The Role
Crystal Lake School District 47 is seeking a Permanent Substitute Nurse (LPN or RN) for the 2026/27 School Year.
Responsibilities
- Provide direct nursing services to students to maximize health and wellness in the school community.
- Administer medication and treatment with appropriate documentation.
- Participate in maintaining accurate medical records to assure compliance with state mandates including immunizations, physical examinations, and medical conditions and the related archival responsibilities.
- Mandated screening procedures for vision and hearing (requires state credentials as a screener).
- Maintain communication with the certificated school nurse, teachers, other school personnel, and parents/guardians to enhance cooperative action which will meet the health and safety needs of students.
- Contact parents regarding student absences, illness or injuries.
- Monitor communicable diseases and do follow-up contact as needed under the guidance of the Certificated School Nurse.
- Maintain student attendance records and prepare reports as directed.
- Complete accident/incident reports for students and staff.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding all school and health-related issues.
- Maintain a daily log of student/staff visits and documentation on individual health records.
- Maintain the daily environment of the health office facility and supplies.
- Utilize existing technology effectively in the performance of duties.
- Perform other health or school-related work as required.
Qualifications
- A current license to work as an LPN in the State of Illinois.
- A High School Diploma/GED and graduation from an accredited LPN program.
- Some experience in a hospital setting or similar acute care setting is preferable.
- Knowledge of HIPAA laws.
Skills
- Computer literacy and competency in use of existing technology.
- Demonstrate high levels of flexibility, have excellent interpersonal communication skills, effectively communicating with parents and students, articulation, creativity, organizational skills, confidentiality, maintain a positive attitude and cooperativeness.
- Have the ability to work independently and manage time commitments.
- Transportation required.
- Strong identity with professional nursing standards and ethics.

- RN Substitute - Hourly Rate: $31.86
- LPN Substitute - Hourly Rate: $26.84
