About the role

The employee provides instruction to students in the assigned school, assuming responsibility for all aspects of classroom instruction, assessments, and behavior management on a short-term or long-term basis. Implements teacher-created lesson plans or collaborates with educators to generate lesson plans, providing differentiated strategies for students at all levels across content areas. Daily assignments vary based on school needs.

Responsibilities

• Improvise lessons in emergency situations where detailed lesson plans are unavailable
• Plan, prepare, and deliver appropriate curriculum content
• Establish and communicate clear objectives for learning activities
• Use district curriculum to plan daily instructional activities
• Stay current with best practices in instructional delivery, assessment, and behavior management
• Assess student learning using multiple tools and adjust instruction to meet individual/group needs
• Create a positive educational climate for students
• Maintain classroom order in accordance with division guidelines
• Supervise students during non-classroom time (before/after school, activities, fire drills)
• Collaborate with faculty in planning and delivering instruction
• Communicate regularly with parents, administration, and staff
• Model appropriate use of technology to support instruction and learning
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local education policies
• Perform other related duties as required

Requirements

• Minimum of 60 semester hours of college credit or 2 years of experience working with children
• Complete Child Abuse and Neglect Recognition and Intervention training (Virginia DSS)
• Able to lift/move up to 10 pounds frequently and 25–50 pounds occasionally
• May need to assist, move, or restrain students for safety interventions
• Frequently required to sit, talk, lift, walk, stand, and hear

Pay
