Permanent Substitute - Ridge Elementary

About the role

The employee provides instruction to students in the assigned school, assuming responsibility for all aspects of classroom instruction, assessments, and behavior management on a short-term or long-term basis. Daily assignments vary depending on the need for substitutes.

Responsibilities

• Improvise lessons in emergency situations where the teacher is unable to provide detailed lesson plans
• Plan, prepare, and deliver appropriate curriculum content to students
• Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities
• Use the district’s curriculum to plan daily instructional activities
• Remain current in best practices for instructional delivery, assessment, and behavior management
• Assess student learning using multiple tools on an ongoing basis and alter instruction to meet group/individual needs
• Create a positive educational climate for students
• Maintain order within the classroom in accordance with division guidelines regarding student behavior management
• Supervise students during non-classroom time (before school, after school, student activities, and fire drills)
• Collaborate with other faculty in planning and delivering instruction to students
• Communicate regularly with parents, administration, and other staff as needed
• Incorporate and model appropriate use of technology to support instruction and student learning
• Ensure compliance with applicable federal and state statutes and local policies, regulations, and guidelines related to public schools
• Perform other related duties as required

Requirements

• Minimum of 60 semester hours of college credit or 2 years of experience working with children
• Complete Child Abuse and Neglect Recognition and Intervention training (Virginia DSS)
• Able to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds frequently and 25 to 50 pounds occasionally
• Able to assist, move, or restrain students when required to intervene in student safety issues
• Frequently required to sit, talk, lift, walk, stand, and hear
• Successfully complete background investigations/tests: FBI Criminal History, State Police Criminal History, Child Protective Services (CPS) Investigation, and Tuberculosis Screening/Test

Pay

Minimum salary: $23.36 per hour.
