Permanent Substitute Art Teacher (2026/2027 School Year)

About the role

The art teacher will work under the direction of the principal and the fine arts program coordinator to teach scheduled classes, coordinate art with other curricula, and participate in scheduled exhibits.

Responsibilities

• Conduct art classes as scheduled.
• Provide clear written lesson plans on a weekly basis.
• Report on pupil progress through student report cards and student analysis sheets to the principal and program advisor.
• Include painting, drawing, and mixed media with three-dimensional activities.
• Articulate an interdisciplinary art program with other cooperating teams.
• Be involved with school and community activities and exhibits.
• Implement the art curriculum and report its implementation to the principal and program advisor as directed.

Requirements

• Massachusetts certification in art.
• Demonstrated successful teaching experience in art.
• Thorough knowledge of elements of art and successful techniques with emphasis on two-dimensional products in all media.
• Demonstrated successful teaching techniques in painting and drawing.
• Competency working in a culturally diverse environment or willingness to acquire these skills.
• Demonstrated successful techniques in integrating the art program into the curriculum of other disciplines.
• Ability to communicate articulately and cooperatively with teachers, parents, and administrators.
• Knowledge and sensitivity to successfully mainstream learning-disabled students.
