Permanent NY Floater – WC

About the role

This permanent, remote “floater” role provides senior-level claims coverage across New York and New England. You will temporarily assume responsibility for diverse caseloads and client programs as business needs arise, ensuring consistency in claim handling, compliance, and customer service during staff transitions, absences, or workload shifts.

Responsibilities

• Receive assigned claims, confirm policy coverage, and acknowledge the claim.
• Determine validity and compensability by investigating and gathering information; file necessary documentation with state agencies.
• Establish reserves and authorize payments within authority limits.
• Develop and manage action plans with case managers and outcomes managers to reduce overall claim costs.
• Coordinate early return-to-work efforts with appropriate parties.
• Manage subrogation and litigation as applicable.
• Oversee potential claim recoveries of all types.
• Report claims to the excess carrier when applicable.
• Provide clear, timely communication of claim status to customers and claimants.
• Adhere to client and carrier guidelines; participate in claims reviews as needed.
• Develop and maintain strong professional relationships with customers and internal partners.
• Ensure compliance with all applicable state rules and regulations in New York and New England jurisdictions.
• Adapt quickly to new caseloads, client expectations, and system processes while maintaining service standards.
• Perform additional projects and duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or a combination of education and related experience.
• Minimum of 3 years’ industry experience and claim handling.
• Self-Insured Certificate preferred.
• Active license to handle workers’ compensation claims in the State of New York.
• License and/or experience in at least one additional New England state (CT, RI, NH, VT, and/or ME).
• Willingness to become licensed in additional/all New England states.

• Computer proficiency with MS Office, including Excel spreadsheets.
• Strong interpersonal, time management, and organizational skills.
• Ability to work both independently and within a team environment.
• Knowledge of claims administration, case management, and cost containment solutions as applicable to workers’ compensation.

Pay

Pay range: $61,053 – $98,334. CorVel uses a market-based approach, considering geographic location, job-related skills, experience, qualifications, internal equity, and market conditions. For leveled roles, new hires may be placed at a different level based on experience and qualifications, which could impact the salary range.
