Perioperative Supply Chain Coordinator

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities

  • Order, receive, inventory, and distribute supplies, implants, instruments, and equipment utilized in the provision of care throughout the Perioperative Services environment
  • Maintain records indicating receipt and disposition of all stock materials
  • Develop and maintain inventory levels of supply and implant items in collaboration with Perioperative Nurse Managers and Supply Chain Department resources
  • Review stock item usage, plan for supply needs based on OR schedule, and adjust inventory par levels as needed
  • Assists Perioperative leadership with product evaluation activities in compliance with hospital policy
  • Provides input on new or renewal vendor contracts when an impact on the Perioperative operating budget may occur
  • Collaborates with the Perioperative leadership team to review reports on supply expense, charge capture, cost per case, revenue, expenses, and variances
  • Identifies opportunities to increase standardization of implants, instruments and other items used in surgery
  • In collaboration with clinical and nursing staff, identifies inefficiencies in current practice/processes of utilization and documentation of supplies, implants, instruments, and equipment
  • Assists with supplies, implants, instruments and select equipment trials in the operating rooms and surgical areas as requested by Perioperative leadership
  • Consistently collaborates and communicates with Supply Chain, UI Purchasing, and Central Sterile Supply
  • Incorporates the principles of Service Excellence to ensure positive patient/customer relations
  • Creates an atmosphere which provides for effective recruitment and retention of qualified staff

Required Qualifications

  • A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Moderate (1-3 years) experience providing clinical operations support
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency in computer software applications and database applications (such as Microsoft programs)
  • Collaborates and develops effective interpersonal relationships with nursing staff, interdisciplinary teams and other hospital departments
  • Ability to move throughout hospital, move 25 pounds, and frequently transport heavy case carts
  • Attention to detail and organization skills
  • Must have valid driver’s license and ability to meet UI Fleet Safety Standards

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience with medical terminology
  • Experience with Epic electronic medical record system
  • Experience with Peoplesoft inventory management system
  • Previous healthcare experience with demonstrated ability to promote favorable working relationships (surgeons, vendors, and staff)

Schedule: Day shifts – Monday - Friday.
