Position Summary
The Coordinator – Perioperative Services is a registered nurse (RN) with expertise in perioperative/procedural nursing practice and leadership skills. The Coordinator leads and educates staff on the unit and oversees patient care programs.
Key Responsibilities
MANAGEMENT OF PERSONNEL AND LEADERSHIP
- Interview and select candidates with appropriate clinical skills and professional characteristics.
- Communicate consistently with employees about performance expectations.
- Conduct formal performance reviews that are timely, ongoing, and objective.
- Mentor and role model leadership and management skills.
- Delegate tasks and supervise their completion.
- Supervise interdisciplinary employees, including nurses and ancillary staff.
MANAGEMENT OF RESOURCES
- Adjust unit staffing patterns based on care requirements and patient census.
- Develop and adjust the annual budget in collaboration with the Director.
- Monitor and analyze financial information monthly.
- Support a decentralized management philosophy by facilitating employee involvement.
- Ensure unit space is utilized or altered to enhance safety and efficiency.
- Collaborate with other departments to maintain unit maintenance and environmental safety.
- Select and use materials and supplies to promote cost-effectiveness.
- Monitor charges and promote cost-effective behavior among staff.
- Identify and resolve operational problems and consult when necessary.
Clinical Practice
- Develop and provide a patient care system that supports professional practice and quality, cost-effective care.
- Assure patient and family care aligns with Oneida Health standards.
- Provide consultation to staff and assist with patient care as needed.
- Analyze clinical practice and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Implement and evaluate a systematic orientation program for new staff.
- Develop and implement an ongoing unit-based continuing education plan for staff.
- Participate in organization-wide education initiatives.
Education/Outreach
- Identify and establish clinical learning opportunities for students.
- Monitor students' performance in conjunction with nursing faculty.
- Implement and evaluate a systematic orientation program for new staff.

Qualifications
EDUCATION:
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (required)
- Master of Science in Nursing (preferred)
EXPERIENCE:
- Five (5) years of relevant experience
- Progressive nursing management and/or educator experience with demonstrated success
- Current regulatory, accreditation experience
LICENSES & CERTIFICATION:
- Unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license in State of New York (required)
- Basic Life Support and Advanced Life Support (required)
- Certification in specialty (preferred)
