Placement within the salary range is dependent on relevant work experience and internal equity. For positions represented by a labor union, placement is guided by the collective bargaining agreement rules.

Description

A clinically competent Perioperative Care Technician who works under the supervision of the RN in delivering skilled and effective direct and indirect perioperative care. Utilizes initiative, maintains productivity, and assists in maintaining a safe and clean environment. Participates in continuous quality improvement activities.

Responsibilities

• Provides accurate information and timely updates to patients and customers; addresses questions and concerns promptly.
• Uses effective service recovery skills to solve problems or service breakdowns.
• Manages work schedule efficiently, completing tasks on time.
• Contributes to continuous improvement processes and cost-reduction efforts.
• Collaborates with the RN to address patient safety and legal issues.
• Communicates patients' progress and diagnostic results to RN as appropriate.
• Documents patient care activities and data accurately.
• Performs clinical skills such as vital sign measurement, aseptic technique, specimen collection, respiratory therapy, post-mortem care, application of TEDs/pneumatic TEDs, clipping, IV preparation, unit restocking, patient ambulation, and toileting.
• Gathers data for patient care planning, including intake, output, and vital signs.
• Assists with patient admission, orientation, discharge, and transport.
• Observes patients for significant changes and reports findings.
• Delivers direct patient care under RN supervision.
• Maintains education records and participates in annual competencies.
• Provides a warm welcome to patients, visitors, and staff.
• Assists with house-wide and department-wide Quality Improvement activities.

Requirements

• High school graduate or equivalent.
• CPR – Basic Life Support certification.
• Proficiency in medical terminology, English, verbal, and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Proficiency in phlebotomy, blood draws, EKG, and glucoscans.
• Nursing Assistant Certification.
