Periop Nurse Supervisor, Full-Time Evenings, 3p-11p, Operating Room, Atlantic Health Overlook Medical Center

About the role

Responsible for ensuring that the department is staffed appropriately to ensure the effective delivery of nursing care/specialty needs of services are met. Maintains compliance with established quality standards. Manages unit staff productively and assists in budget development and maintenance. Assumes a leadership role in development of professional practice.

Responsibilities

• Captures and coordinates daily staffing schedule.
• Consults in a variety of patient care situations requiring advanced competency and knowledge.
• Serves as a clinical resource for problem solving and assists staff with patient related issues and emergency situations.
• Acts as liaison to other departments and multiple patient care services.
• Serves as a role model to develop staff competence.
• Affords assistance in cost management, including product evaluation, prevention of waste and damage, room utilization, control of overtime, and appropriate staffing mix.
• Facilitates unit-based Quality Improvement (QE) program/projects.
• Investigates and follows up on incident reports and patient complaints.
• Evaluates and updates the quality and appropriate use of department and unit tools.
• Acts as a manager in absence of the manager.
• Affords assistance with interviews, hiring, coaching, counseling, and corrective action, including documentation of same.
• Affords assistance with annual performance appraisals.
• Affords assistance with budget process.
• Affords assistance in implementing clinical pathways and outcomes management.
• Affords assistance in unit problem solving.
• Schedules staff meetings as needed.
• Promotes positive group dynamics as leader and member.
• Maintains communication with patients, families, staff, physicians, and other departments.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree Required.
• Registered Nurse (RN) required.
• Three (3) years' experience in discipline.
• Clinical and Technical expertise in specialties of responsibility.
• Preferred Charge Experience and Specialty certification are preferred.

Qualifications

• Preferred Charge Experience and Specialty certification are preferred.

Skills

• Basic Life Support (BLS).
• Knowledge of clinical nursing care procedures and protocols.
