Position Summary
Provides supportive para-nursing functions in the Operating Room, Post Anesthesia Care Unit and Patient Holding Area.
Responsibilities
- Demonstrates knowledge of sterile field.
- Illustrates proper technique for transporting and positioning patients safely.
- Displays understanding of proper body mechanics.
- Recognize the area of surgical prep (clean or sterile).
- Maintains, cleans and stocks scrub areas to include sterilizer.
- Assists with daily and weekly cleaning of autoclaves and solution cabinets.
- Demonstrates ability to assist RN in the skin preparation of the patient by safely holding extremities and preventing contamination of the prepped site.
- Demonstrates proper technique for surgical hand scrub.
- Demonstrates proper procedure for gowning and gloving.
- Assists with creation and maintenance of sterile field.
- Acts as third scrub under direction of a surgical technologist, RN, or physician.
- Orders supplies and maintains par levels as directed.
- Aids in formation of nursing assistant time schedule.
- Takes and records temperature, pulse, respiration, weight, height, BP and intake-output measurements.
- Assists in and accompanies patients in the admission, transfer and discharge procedures.
- Provides general care such as positioning, lifting or turning patients; assisting in use of bedpan, urinal or commode; ambulating patient; pre-operative supportive care; and application/removal of abdominal binder and anti-ambolism stockings.
- Aid patient with handling and care of clothing and other personal property throughout their hospital stay.
- Follows policies, procedures, and safety standards.
- Completes required education assignments annually.
- Works toward achieving goals and objectives, and participates in quality improvement initiatives as requested.
- Perform other related duties as assigned or requested.
Qualifications
- Minimum Education: None specified; will accept any combination of formal education and/or prior work experience sufficient to demonstrate possession of the knowledge, skill and ability needed to perform the essential tasks of the job, typically such as would be equivalent to a high school diploma or GED. Preference may be given to individuals possessing a HS diploma or GED.
- Minimum Experience: One (1) year of health care related experience required.
