About the Role

Barnes-Jewish Hospital is a 1500-bed Level One trauma center offering an exciting and challenging atmosphere with complex cases. The hospital is ranked as one of the nation's top hospitals by U.S. News & World Report and is the largest hospital in Missouri. The perfusion team consists of 17 perfusionists with a diverse set of backgrounds and experience. Here, you'll work with world-renowned surgeons and anesthesiologists, assist on unique and complex procedures, and play a vital role in developing new procedures and treatment protocols.

70% of cases are scheduled, and the role involves rotating shifts. A sign-on bonus and relocation assistance are offered.

Responsibilities

• Under the supervision of an attending physician, administer pharmaceuticals, transfuse blood products, and participate in the evaluation of advanced technological equipment to assess effectiveness and/or improvements to patient care.
• Conduct cardiopulmonary bypass by developing specific perfusion care plans relative to cardiac conditions such as heart failure, heart/lung transplantation parameters, and appropriate ventricular assist device selection and support.
• Select, initiate, provide support, and troubleshoot extracorporeal membrane systems and ventricular assist devices utilizing evidence-based practices.
• Perform dynamic inter-hospital transportation of mechanically supported patients, including conversion of support platforms, component troubleshooting, collaboration with transport team members, and coordination of patient care and safety.
• Design, implement, and participate in education and training programs for cardiopulmonary bypass and extracorporeal support specialists, physicians, and critical support personnel.
• Set up and troubleshoot a variety of mechanical support devices.
• Participate in the education of perfusion students through clinical affiliations with accredited perfusion education programs.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree (required).
• Less than 2 years of experience (required).
• Certified Clinical Perfusionist (required).
• Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification (required).
• Licensed Perfusionist (required).
• New Grad Provisional License (required).

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s Degree.
• 2-5 years of experience.
