Perfusionist

Role Overview

A Perfusionist performs advanced technical functions to support, treat, and monitor patients' cardiopulmonary and circulatory systems during cardiac surgeries, operating and maintaining specialized perfusion equipment in a team environment. The role involves working primarily in the cardiovascular operating room, with responsibilities extending to ECMO coverage, intra-hospital transport, and travel across multiple facilities.

Responsibilities

• Prepare for procedures by selecting supplies, assembling equipment, and documenting patient data accurately.
• Manage equipment maintenance, cleaning, and inventory tracking.
• Support cardiopulmonary functions, reacting appropriately to critical situations, and adjusting therapies accordingly.
• Operate and understand complex perfusion devices, including cardiopulmonary bypass, cardioplegia, autotransfusion, intra-aortic balloon pumps, ventricular assist devices, and ECMO systems.
• Communicate effectively with physicians and team members, providing clear data interpretation and maintaining professionalism.
• Ensure compliance with policies, safety protocols, and standards of work, while performing additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications & Skills

• Bachelor's Degree or equivalent from an accredited Cardiovascular Perfusion Program.
• Minimum of 3 years' experience preferred.
• Licenses: Georgia Clinical Perfusionist license, BLS certification (or equivalent).
• Knowledge of cardiac anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, and clinical management.
• Ability to work in a team, handle emergencies, and communicate effectively.
• Completion of American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion certification within 12 months if a new graduate.
