Performance Nutrition Fellow - Football

This position provides sports nutrition programming to improve the health and performance of elite football student-athletes competing for a highly competitive, Division I athletics program.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Director of Football Performance Nutrition with counseling football team members on daily nutrition for performance and health
  • Translate the latest scientific evidence into practical sports nutrition recommendations
  • Track and document outcomes of nutrition services
  • Serve as a food and nutrition resource for student-athletes, coaches, athletic trainers, athletics support staff, food service vendors/representatives, and parents
  • Provide or assist in sports nutrition education for maintaining and promoting health and wellness
  • Assist in athletic food service operations
  • Maintain professional competency and skills required for professional practice, individual and team nutrition counseling and education
  • Promote the philosophy and objectives of the intercollegiate athletics program, adhering to the Athletic Department’s Mission Statement, Core Values, Policies and Procedures, as well as the rules and regulations of the University, the Big 12 Conference, and the NCAA
  • Maintain consistent presence at football events throughout the week by attending team meals, practice, games, etc.
  • Assist in providing group team education
  • Provide 1:1 nutrition counseling, medical nutrition therapy, and sports nutrition education as needed
  • Work closely with coaching staff, athletic trainers, strength staff, and others in the athletic department on nutrition-related topics
  • Assist in the oversight of football nutrition food service operations, including pre, intra, and post practice nutrition, and outside vendors for gameday
  • Assist in inventory management including distribution, receiving, stocking, and inventory
  • Provide primary oversight over football nutrition student interns including scheduling and daily task management
  • Assist in development of nutrition education in fueling hubs and fueling stations
  • Document performance nutrition services and metrics, including knowledge and training of electronic medical record
  • Maintain HIPAA confidentiality and follow department and university policies and procedures, as well as the rules, regulations, bylaws, and interpretations of the Big 12 Conference and NCAA

Schedule

This role will work Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM. Extended hours on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays might be needed for practice and competitions. Travel with the Football team will be required on an as-needed basis.

Pay

The starting salary for this position will be $48,000 annually.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
  • Current Registered Dietitian or RD-Eligible (ability to obtain RD within 60 days of hire)
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute
  • Ability to stand for long periods and lift over 50 lbs

Qualifications

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, team environment
  • Ability to present food nutrition trainings and guidance

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's Degree
  • Experience with food handling
  • Desire to work towards Certified Specialist in Sports Dietetics certification
