Performance Marketing Manager - Amazon (DSP + Ads) & Meta

About the role
We're an independent, data-driven fiction publisher running two imprints — crime and romance — with multiple bestselling series and a deep back catalog. The large majority of our revenue comes from Kindle Unlimited, which shapes everything about how we market: we don't chase clicks or one-off sales, we drive borrows, read-through, and series momentum.
Responsibilities
- Own our paid acquisition across two fronts: Amazon — Sponsored Products, Sponsored Brands, and DSP. We hold our own DSP seat, so you'll be hands-on in the platform, including Kindle e-reader and on-device placements. You won't be briefing an agency; you'll be building and running it.
- Meta — top-of-funnel demand generation for new releases, series starters, and box sets. This is a high-ownership, high-trust role. You plan the budget, build the campaigns, design the testing, read the data, and answer for the results.
- Build and manage Amazon Sponsored Products and Sponsored Brands: keyword and product/ASIN targeting, structured around series and competitor titles.
- Run our Amazon DSP seat: audience construction (detail-page retargeting, competitor-ASIN viewers, in-market and lookalike segments), Kindle e-reader/on-device placements, pacing, frequency capping, and creative rotation — with tight cost control on premium inventory.
- Plan and run Meta campaigns for series starters and box sets, including audience structure, creative testing cadence, and scaling.
- Drive ad creative: shape the concepts and hooks, produce quick variations yourself (including with AI tools) for fast testing, and direct our designer for the polished assets.
- Run a disciplined, always-on testing program.
- Cook up the budget and coordinate spend with our release calendar (we ship multiple titles a month) and protect the algorithmic momentum on proven titles.
- Report honestly on what's working and what isn't, and reallocate accordingly.
Requirements
- 3+ years running direct-response paid acquisition with real, hands-on scaling experience on Meta.
- Genuine hands-on Amazon DSP experience — you've built audiences and campaigns yourself, not watched an account manager do it.
- Strong analytical instincts: comfortable living in spreadsheets, fluent in marginal return, and honest about what the data does and doesn't show.
- A self-directed operator who spots a problem in the numbers and acts before being asked.
- Creative-capable: you can turn around your own ad-creative variations for testing (AI tools are a real plus) and direct a designer for finished assets. You don't need to be a designer — but you do need strong creative judgment and the ability to move fast on test creative.
- The intellectual honesty to run experiments, sit with ambiguous results, and follow the evidence.

- Amazon Sponsored Products / Sponsored Brands experience and familiarity with Kindle e-reader placements.
- Understanding of series-based publishing, launch strategy, and read-through economics.
