Responsibilities
- Completes comprehensive histories and physicals on all new admissions.
- Diagnoses and treats acute and chronic illness.
- Evaluates the need for consult services and submits prioritized consults when indicated.
- Reviews all on island/off-island specialty consult clinic and hospital returns.
- Evaluates consultant recommendations to ensure standard of care is met and implements recommendations.
- Responds to emergencies and fire drills on a priority basis and in a timely and professional manner.
- Be familiar with performance indicators (PI) and take appropriate measures to comply with these standards.
- Requests radiology exams, lab tests, and EKGs when indicated and interprets these results in conjunction with the patient's clinical status.
- Notifies Urgicare for 3-hour/EMS runs.
- Generates medical modifications as needed.
- Maintains clinical competency by reviewing CHS protocols, current medical literature, and CMEs.
- Provides clinical supervision for PAs/NPs which includes co-signing of notes and medication orders.
- Ensures that the standard of care is maintained.
- Adheres to policies and procedures of CHS and reviews them as needed.
- Attends all mandatory in-services.
- Complies with and maintains Employee Health requirements.
Qualifications
MD/DO degree from an accredited medical school.
Current NYS Medical License.
Completion of an approved residency program in Internal Medicine or Psychiatry.
Experience in correctional health care preferred.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Proficiency in computer systems and software applications.
Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
