Additional Information: 2 openings available. Per Diem School Nurse Lawrence Academy (LA) is a boarding and day school in Groton, MA, serving 400 students in grades 9-12. LA enjoys its heritage as one of the oldest independent schools in the country while embracing a contemporary student-centered approach that supports its mission. In LA’s tightly knit environment, students are supported and encouraged to exercise their minds, discover their voices, learn creatively, and take their own initiative. The academic program is uniquely hands-on and allows students to discover how their education can be applied in daily life. LA has multiple openings for experienced nurses to join the school’s per diem nursing team for the 2026-2027 academic year. The per diem school nurse provides coverage to the health center when additional staffing is needed to deliver nursing care to Lawrence Academy students and employees. The per diem school nurse will assist the Director of Health Services in maintaining and executing the functions of the LA Health Center. Successful candidates should be confident, adaptable problem-solvers with excellent communication skills, and the ability to learn and work with new systems quickly. Key Responsibilities: Provide nursing-level visits for student illness or injury.Administer prescription medication or vaccinations per physician order or by parent permission in the case of over-the-counter medications per school protocol.Participate in daily monitoring of students with concussions.Work within the school’s EMR to document in real time care given by the school nurse.Protect student and employee confidentiality per standards, professional ethics, and legal requirements (FERPA).Communicate with LA administration faculty and/or coaches about attendance and student health excuses for classes, activities, and athletics.Communicate as appropriate with parents regarding their student’s medical condition(s) and need for follow-up with outside providers.Refer as appropriate to the school psychologist or school physician.Participate in maintaining the health center infirmary rooms, including laundry and making beds. Required Qualifications: Valid and current Registered Nurse license in the state of MA.Proficiency and interest in working with an adolescent school health population, including local, boarding, and international students.CPR certification.Computer skills and familiarity with EHRs in general. Experience with Microsoft Office and electronic medical records (EMR) systems (Magnus preferred).Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.Cultural competence and sensitivity to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging in all aspects of healthcare delivery.Candidate must successfully pass required background checks. Physical Requirements: May be exposed to infectious diseases.Day-to-day work includes desk work, computer work, interaction with students, faculty, administrators, health center staff, and student families.This position requires standing, sitting, bending, the ability to go up and down stairs, and the ability to be outside moving from office to office to meet with students and families in a variety of weather conditions.
