About the Role
Our Behavioral Health Unit provides the opportunity to work with mental health patients in a setting focused on stabilizing acute psychiatric crises. You will support your main unit while being cross-trained across four specialized units:
- Adult Psych Unit – A 26-bed inpatient unit for adults experiencing acute psychiatric symptoms, often with comorbid medical or substance use conditions. Treatment includes acute intervention, medication stabilization, and discharge planning.
- Senior/Geriatric Psych Unit – A 20-bed unit addressing mental health and substance abuse in patients typically 55+, with careful attention to co-existing medical illnesses. Focuses on maintaining independence post-discharge.
- MICA (Mentally Ill/Chemically Addicted) – A 14-bed unit for individuals with dual diagnoses of mental illness and substance abuse. Treatment is tailored to varying functional levels.
- CRISIS ER – A 6-bed locked unit within the emergency department for evaluating patients in mental health crises to determine inpatient admission or safe discharge with outpatient support.
Responsibilities
- Address the medical and psychiatric needs of patients experiencing mental health and substance abuse problems.
- Provide a professional, caring, and safe environment for patients and their families.
- Maintain clinical and safety standards to ensure high-quality patient care.
- Assess the needs of each patient, including spiritual, emotional, and physiological requirements.
- Plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care, either directly or by leading supervised personnel.
- Modify and deliver age-specific care according to unit scope of services.
- In the charge role, perform clinical and leadership functions, including assessing patient needs and planning care.
Requirements
- Current NYS RN license.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Ability to assess, plan, direct, intervene, and evaluate patient care.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- 1 year of RN experience preferred.
Pay
Pay range: $40.00 - $53.10 per hour, based on experience, skills, and education. Exempt positions under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) will be paid within the equivalent base salary of the stated hourly rates. The range may vary by location.
