Per Diem Registered Nurse Surgery Center

About the Role

Supports the organization's mission, vision, core values, and customer service philosophy. Adheres to the organization's Compliance Program, including following all regulatory and policy requirements. Provides direct nursing care pre, during, and post-procedure under the direction of the Facility Manager, Director of Nursing, and/or Charge Registered Nurse. Utilizes standard nursing techniques to assist the physician in achieving optimal patient outcomes while following facility policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

• Quality:
  • Supports and drives organization quality standards through meeting regulatory and accrediting body requirements and practicing Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI).
  • Assists with implementation of organization quality goals and facility-specific action plans.
  • Ensures outstanding quality of patient care as defined by organization quality goals.
  • Addresses and acts on adverse events and action thresholds in collaboration with facility management.
  • Maintains integrity of medical records and other administrative and operational records.
  • Complies with all data collection and auditing activities.
  • Maintains facility environmental integrity and safety.
• Patient Care:
  • Obtains necessary medical history, discusses procedures, answers questions, and performs nursing assessments on the day of the procedure.
  • Provides education to patients and their families regarding post-procedure care of vascular access.
  • Monitors patient condition before, during, and after the procedure, especially for those undergoing moderate sedation and contrast media injections.
  • Acts as a resource for patients to address concerns and questions.
  • Completes accurate documentation of patient information from admission to discharge.
  • Confirms written orders, consents, and lab work are completed and documented per facility policies.
  • Maintains competency with emergency operational procedures and initiates CPR and emergency measures as needed.
  • Administers medications and IV moderate sedation per physician’s orders and in compliance with regulations.
  • Acts as a scrub technologist to assist the physician during procedures, maintaining sterile technique.
  • Assists with patient workflow by transporting patients as needed.
  • Performs point-of-care laboratory testing and IV insertion per physician’s orders.
  • Performs additional tasks as designated by the physician in compliance with state regulations.
• Physician Support:
  • Provides regular and effective communication with physicians on an as-needed basis.
  • Attends and participates in CQI meetings with physicians, reporting on assigned topics.
  • Assists facility management in verifying necessary instruments and equipment.
  • Assists the physician in completing and reporting state-required adverse event reports.
• Maintenance/Technical:
  • Operates facility equipment and technology, including patient monitors, defibrillators, medical recording devices, sterilizers, and computers safely and efficiently.
  • Inspects operation of all facility equipment and reports malfunctions and maintenance needs.
  • Ensures a clean, safe, and sanitary environment in the vascular access facility at all times.
  • Addresses blood spills immediately according to organization policies.
• Administrative:
  • Assists with efficient utilization of medication, laboratory, inventory, supplies, and equipment to achieve supply cost goals.
  • May assist in the development and revision of facility policies and procedures for continuous process improvement.
  • Assists with CQI activities, including monthly reports and attending meetings.
  • Maintains medication supply, including inventory control and checking for expired medications.
  • Completes usage logs for all medications and records of drug disposal in accordance with laws.
  • Assists with maintaining facility supply inventory, including ordering and restocking supplies.
  • Examines emergency equipment and supplies, including stocking the crash cart regularly.
  • Completes medical records accurately and in compliance with organization policies prior to patient discharge.
  • Performs chart audits on a regular basis.
  • May participate in facility regulatory and accreditation surveys and action plans.
  • Completes state-required records for implanted devices accurately and timely.
  • Participates in staff meetings, training, and orientation as assigned.
  • Complies with HIPAA policies and standards regarding patient information and medical records.
  • Assists with various projects as assigned by direct supervisor.

Requirements

• High School Diploma required; Associate's Degree desirable; Bachelor's Degree strongly preferred.
• Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing (R.N.).
• Current appropriate state licensure and ACLS certification required.
• 4-6 years of related experience preferred.
• Experience in Office-Based Surgical Center, Ambulatory Surgical Center, Vascular Access, Cardiac Cath Lab, or a combination of ASC, surgical, Interventional Radiology, ICU/CCU, or emergency department preferred.
• Proficient in the use of computers and related software such as Microsoft Office.
• Proficient in IV insertion and cardiac rhythm recognition.
• Experience with medical database software.
• Certified in BLS & ACLS.

• Day-to-day work includes desk and personal computer work, interaction with patients, facility staff, and physicians.
• Provides direct patient care involving heavy lifting and moving of patients, and assisting with ambulation.
• Equipment aids and/or coworkers may provide assistance.
• Requires frequent prolonged periods of standing and bending over.
• May occasionally be required to move patients and equipment of up to 200 lbs with assistance.
• Work environment is characteristic of a healthcare facility with air temperature control and moderate noise levels.
• May be exposed to infectious, contagious diseases/materials and radiation.
• May be required to wear protective gear in procedure rooms for extended periods of time.

Pay

Rate of pay for this position is $43.46-$72.36 per hour, depending on the successful candidate’s work location and qualifications, including relevant education, work experience, skills, and competencies.
