Registered Nurse Surgery Center Per Diem

About the role

This is a per diem RN role for our Riverside, CA surgery center. The position supports the organization’s mission, vision, core values, and customer service philosophy while adhering to the compliance program and all regulatory and policy requirements. The RN provides direct nursing care pre-, during, and post-procedure under the direction of the Facility Manager, Director of Nursing, and/or Charge Registered Nurse, utilizing standard nursing techniques to assist the physician in achieving optimum patient outcomes following facility policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

• Quality:
  • Support and drive organization quality standards by meeting regulatory and accrediting body requirements and practicing Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI).
  • Assist with implementation of organization quality goals and facility-specific action plans.
  • Ensure outstanding quality of patient care as defined by organization quality goals.
  • Address and act on adverse events and action thresholds in collaboration with facility management.
  • Maintain integrity of medical records and other administrative and operational records.
  • Comply with all data collection and auditing activities.
  • Maintain facility environmental integrity and safety.
• Patient Care:
  • Obtain necessary medical history, discuss procedures, answer questions, and perform nursing assessments on the day of the procedure.
  • Provide education to patients and families regarding post-procedure care of vascular access.
  • Monitor patient condition before, during, and after the procedure, especially for patients receiving moderate sedation and contrast media injections.
  • Act as a resource for patient concerns and questions.
  • Complete accurate documentation of patient information from admission to discharge.
  • Confirm written orders, consents, and lab work are completed and documented per facility policies.
  • Maintain competency with emergency operational procedures, initiate CPR, and apply emergency measures as needed.
  • Administer medications and IV moderate sedation per physician’s orders in compliance with regulations.
  • Act as scrub technologist to assist the physician during procedures, maintaining sterile technique.
  • Assist with patient workflow, including transporting patients as needed.
  • Perform point-of-care laboratory testing and IV insertion per physician orders.
  • Perform additional tasks as designated by the physician in compliance with state regulations.
• Physician Support:
  • Provide regular and effective communication with physicians as needed.
  • Attend and participate in CQI meetings with physicians, reporting on assigned topics.
  • Assist facility management in verifying necessary instruments and equipment.
  • Assist in completing and reporting state-required adverse event reports per organization policy.
• Maintenance/Technical:
  • Operate facility equipment (e.g., patient monitors, defibrillators, medical recording devices, sterilizers, computers) safely and efficiently.
  • Inspect and report malfunctions or maintenance needs for all facility equipment.
  • Inspect facility operating systems, including temperature checks and physical structure, reporting issues to the Facility Manager.
  • Ensure a clean, safe, and sanitary environment at all times.
  • Address blood spills immediately according to organization bloodborne pathogen control policies.
• Administrative:
  • Assist with efficient utilization of medication, laboratory, inventory, supplies, and equipment to meet supply cost goals.
  • Assist in developing and revising facility policies and procedures for continuous process improvement.
  • Participate in CQI activities, including monthly reports and meetings.
  • Maintain medication supply, including inventory control, checking for expired medications, and recording controlled substances.
  • Complete usage logs for medications and records of drug disposal per legal requirements.
  • Maintain facility supply inventory, including ordering and restocking supplies.
  • Examine and stock emergency equipment, including the crash cart, on a regular basis.
  • Complete medical records accurately and in compliance with organization policies prior to patient discharge.
  • Perform regular chart audits.
  • Participate in facility regulatory and accreditation surveys and action plans.
  • Complete state-required records for implanted devices accurately and timely.
  • Participate in staff meetings, training, and orientation as assigned.
  • Comply with HIPAA policies regarding patient information and medical records.
  • Assist with various projects as assigned by direct supervisor.

Requirements

• High School Diploma required; Associate’s Degree desirable; Bachelor’s Degree strongly preferred.
• Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing (R.N.).
• Current appropriate state licensure and ACLS certification required.
• 4–6 years of related experience preferred.
• Experience in Office-Based Surgical Centers, Ambulatory Surgical Centers, Vascular Access, Cardiac Cath Lab, Interventional Radiology, ICU/CCU, or emergency department preferred.
• Proficient in IV insertion and cardiac rhythm recognition.
• Experience with medical database software.
• Certified in BLS and ACLS.
• Proficient in the use of computers and related software (e.g., Microsoft Office).

Physical Demands and Working Conditions

• Day-to-day work includes desk and computer tasks, as well as interaction with patients, staff, and physicians.
• Provides direct patient care involving heavy lifting, moving patients, and assisting with ambulation. Equipment aids or coworkers may assist.
• Requires frequent prolonged standing and bending over.
• May occasionally move patients and equipment up to 200 lbs with assistance (two-person assist program and material assist devices available).
• Work environment is temperature-controlled with moderate noise levels.
• May be exposed to infectious or contagious diseases, materials, and radiation.
• May be required to wear protective gear in procedure rooms for extended periods.

Pay

Hourly rate: $41.00 – $68.00, depending on the candidate’s work location and qualifications, including relevant education, work experience, skills, and competencies.
