Per Diem Pathologist

About the role

We are seeking a Per Diem Pathologist to join our team in West Long Branch, NJ, at a state-of-the-art, high-volume laboratory within NY and NJ's premiere gastroenterology organization.

Responsibilities

• Review and interpret surgical pathology, cytology, and/or hematopathology specimens.
• Render accurate and timely diagnoses in accordance with established quality standards.
• Prepare and finalize pathology reports within required turnaround times.
• Consult with physicians and healthcare providers regarding diagnostic findings and patient management.
• Participate in quality assurance and quality improvement activities.
• Maintain compliance with all applicable regulatory, accreditation, and laboratory standards (CLIA/CAP guidelines).
• Provide guidance and support to laboratory personnel as needed.
• Document findings and maintain records in accordance with organizational policies and procedures.
• Accurately sign out and read slides of pathology cases.
• Follow all laboratory standard operating procedures and policies.
• Prioritize successful completion of STAT cases and notify clinicians of STAT and malignant cases.
• Organize daily workflow to meet established turnaround time (TAT) and productivity standards, ensuring 90% of cases are signed out within 24 hours of readiness for interpretation.
• Notify management and the Medical Director of any delays in TAT.
• Report all delayed cases and case errors to the Medical Director and Lab Manager for investigation and correction.
• Accurately follow the addendum, corrected, and amended reports process.
• Check all internal communications daily, including gGastro and ADH email.
• Review malignant cases, dysplasia cases, and borderline or complex cases with peers as needed, within 1-2 days of receipt.
• Perform monthly quality control (QC) on the computer; cases for QC are distributed weekly and must be completed by the end of the month.
• Communicate clearly and concisely in writing with laboratory staff regarding requests for stains, consults, or updates/changes to cases.

Requirements

• MD or DO degree from an accredited medical school.
• Board Certification in Anatomic and/or Clinical Pathology by the American Board of Pathology or American Osteopathic Board of Pathology, or equivalent qualifications.
• Active and unrestricted medical license in the applicable state(s).
• Demonstrated expertise in pathology diagnosis and reporting.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills.
• Ability to work independently and efficiently in a per-diem setting.

Schedule

Per diem/as-needed coverage with flexible scheduling based on organizational needs and candidate availability. Shifts are 8 hours in length, Monday through Friday.
