Facility: 55 Fogg Road, Weymouth, MA 02190 – Perinatology department. Part-time, day shift.

Pay

  • Per diem rate: $60 per hour
  • Budgeted hourly range: $44.54 – $59.95

Responsibilities

  • Performs level II ultrasounds and assists in ultrasound-guided procedures (amniocentesis, CVS, biophysical profiles, dopplers, first-trimester screening)
  • Receives and reviews scan requests; explains exams to patients with attention to physical and emotional needs
  • Reviews exams and collaborates with Maternal-Fetal Medicine (MFM) specialists in a timely, collegial manner
  • Demonstrates excellent bedside manner and interpersonal skills, especially with patients under stress
  • Handles delivery of difficult news to patients; may attend hospital courses on this topic
  • Applies knowledge of imaging processes, fetal anatomy, and physiology to acquire and utilize diagnostic information
  • Stands and walks most of the day
  • Follows and promotes the “Culture of Service Excellence”
  • Completes paperwork and enters patient data in a timely manner to maintain patient flow
  • Prepares, operates, and maintains ultrasound equipment; identifies malfunctions and reports repairs needed
  • Follows strict protocols for cleaning and disinfecting equipment
  • Maintains effective working relationships and communication with division members (sonographers, MFM staff, genetic counselors, perinatal nurses)
  • May assist Ob/Gyn attendings in the OR with ultrasound guidance after MFM approval
  • Adheres to “Med Teams” mentality within the division and hospital
  • Performs occasional clerical duties to support division operations
  • Communicates exam results to referring physicians as needed
  • Participates in training sonographer students, residents, MFM fellows, and genetic counselor students as directed by MFM staff
  • Travels with MFM staff to learn new processes and techniques
  • Participates in research programs, quality assurance, and quality improvement projects
  • Must be NT certified or obtain certification within the first year of employment (division covers cost; reimbursement required if employment ends within one year of certification)
  • Stays current with developments and trends in MFM
  • Fosters a culture of safety, adhering to National Patient Safety guidelines (e.g., two points of patient ID, time-out procedures)
  • Uses universal precaution techniques
  • Transports and transfers patients following hospital guidelines

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited Ultrasound Program
  • At least 2 years of Level II scanning experience preferred
  • RDMS or eligible (Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers)
  • Diagnostic Medical Sonography Registration Eligible or Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (ARDMS)
