Qualifications And Requirements

  • Admission to practice law in the State of New Jersey.
  • Proficiency with legal research and writing.
  • Five or more years of experience in the practice of law, specifically with providing legal guidance on human resource issues and workplace investigations.
  • A strong understanding of federal and state labor and employment laws and HR issues, including pay equity, employee privacy, Affirmative Action and EEO investigations, employee recruitment/hiring/onboarding, progressive discipline and terminations, leaves of absence (FMLA, NJ FLA, Military Leaves, etc.), workplace accommodations, Title VII, CEPA, NJ LAD.
  • Experience with the New Jersey Civil Service Commission Rules and Regulations.
  • A working knowledge of federal and state laws applicable to school districts in New Jersey.

Basic Functions And Responsibilities

  • Renders oral and written legal advice and guidance on human resource issues and workplace investigations to the Director of Labor & Employee Relations and staff.
  • Prepares formal legal memoranda and opinions, briefs, and legal correspondence for signature by the Director of Labor & Employee Relations.

Director of Labor & Employee Relations

SALARY

Salary: Hourly compensation will be commensurate with education and legal experience.

EMPLOYMENT PERIOD AND UNION AFFILIATION

  • Employment Period: Twelve Month, approximately 10-15 hours per week.
  • Union Affiliation: Unaffiliated
