About the role

The Mental Health Association is seeking a Per Diem Peer Support Specialist for their new 988 Mobile Crisis Outreach Team operating in Hudson County. This program responds to adults (18 and above) in non-life-threatening situations who have contacted the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline. The team works 24/7 to address mental health, substance use, or suicidal crises in the community.

Responsibilities

  • Provide evidenced-based crisis services, engaging individuals in Motivational Interviewing and supporting them in de-escalation and intervention.
  • Transport individuals to crisis stabilization and receiving centers, certified community behavioral health clinics, or hospital emergency departments for appropriate care and treatment.
  • Follow up with community members to connect them to social services and enhance prevention of non-emergency calls and early intervention treatment access.
  • Collaborate with family members, friends, or loved ones to support individuals in crisis.
  • Attend regularly scheduled meetings and training sessions as assigned.
  • Record keeping and reporting in accordance with program requirements.

Requirements

  • At least two years of continuous recovery experience based on personal experience with a mental illness or substance use disorder (AMI or SUD), and at least one year of field experience working with community individuals.
  • Must be certified by at least one of the following credentialing entities: CRSP/CPRS, Mental Health Association in New Jersey, NCPRSS, Certified Wellness Coach, or Community Mental Health Associate Certificate.
  • The ability to provide effective crisis response and de-escalation and intervention.
  • A valid NJ driver's license and a good driving record.
  • The ability to collaborate effectively with community providers and 988 managing entity.
  • Knowledge of Hudson County resources helpful.

Qualifications

  • Master’s Level Supervisor – 988 Mobile Crisis Outreach Response Team supervision.

Skills

  • Effective crisis response and de-escalation skills.
  • Ability to provide non-clinical support beyond the resolution of the immediate crisis.
  • Collaboration with community providers and 988 managing entity.
  • Knowledge of Hudson County resources.

Pay

Base Hourly Rate: $26.44

Schedule

Shifts are on an as-needed basis, specifically seeking holiday and weekend coverage.
