Per Diem Court Interpreter (Freelance) American Sign Langauage

Per diem court interpreters (Sign) are independent contractors who work on an as-needed basis.

Pay

• Full-day rate: $500.00
• Half-day rate: $300.00

No fringe benefits are available.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Professional certification by a recognized credentialing authority as required by Section 390 of the Judiciary Law, or an equivalent combination of education and certification

Qualifications

• Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf, Inc. (RID) National Interpreter Certificate (NIC) or equivalent (currently, RID CI certification is recognized as equivalent to the NIC requirement)
• Candidates may be required to participate in an assessment of language competency and skills prior to appointment

Responsibilities

• Interpret between American Sign Language (ASL) and spoken English in courtrooms and other settings
• Perform simultaneous and consecutive interpretation
• Translate court documents and other written materials
