About the role

HealthQ is a non-profit organization founded in 1971 dedicated to providing exceptional reproductive and sexual health care to all who need it without judgment and without barriers. Our services include birth control, abortion care, gender-affirming care, STI testing and treatment, HIV testing and referral, and other preventive health services.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Under the supervision of the Medical Director, and guided by evidence-based protocols and federal grant and state contract regulations, provide sexual and reproductive health care to well-women, men, and teens.
  • Secure and review the complete health history and record findings accurately.
  • Perform physical examinations with special emphasis on the reproductive system.
  • Consult with the Medical Director when client presentation falls outside established guidelines.
  • Provide cancer screening testing, diagnosis of sexually transmitted infections, and perform other types of more specialized procedures as indicated.
  • Provide health counseling and emotional support throughout care.
  • Teach and support positive self-care techniques, including problem resolution and selection of treatment alternatives.
  • Perform and order diagnostic studies as indicated and provide appropriate treatment and follow-up as necessary.
  • Proactively manage medical and psychosocial referrals and collaborate with other community agencies in providing comprehensive care.
  • Provide birth control education and methods, including IUD and implants.
  • Participate in agency efforts to achieve established goals for productivity, growth, and expansion.
  • Assist the Medical Director with surgical abortion procedures.
  • Provide recommendations for quality and program improvement to the Regional Manager.

Requirements

  • At least five (5) years of experience in family or women’s health, including experience with a full range of sexual and reproductive health services.
  • Graduate of an approved college or nursing institution with a nurse practitioner, nurse midwife, or physician assistant degree.
  • CPR certification.
  • Demonstrated dedication to and passion for sexual and reproductive health, and the achievement of reproductive justice and health equity, including operationalizing these principles into practice.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and active listening skills including the ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively and effectively with individuals across a wide spectrum of diversity at all levels within and outside of the organization.
  • Strong moral code and sense of ethics.
  • Commitment to ensuring patient privacy in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
  • Interest in professional growth and development demonstrated through self-directed continuing education, conference and workshop attendance, and professional affiliations.
  • A foundational understanding of structural racism and the systems of oppression that contribute to health inequities in our communities.
  • Advanced ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
  • Ability to work in a computerized office environment required, including skill in email, word-processing, spreadsheets, and electronic practice management systems.
  • Ability to learn new technologies.

Nice to Have

  • Bilingual preferred, especially Spanish, Portuguese, and/or Haitian Creole.
  • Experience in services including but not limited to abortion, ultrasound, sterilization, analgesia/sedation, and gender-affirming care.
