PennDOT CDL Operator (Transportation Equipment Operator A)

About the role
This position focuses on skilled operation of highway maintenance equipment and performing essential labor to keep roads and bridges safe. The work supports the overall mission to maintain dependable transportation routes for the public.
Responsibilities
- Operate trucks, loaders, and other assigned machinery for maintenance needs
- Handle both motorized and manual tools to complete tasks such as clearing brush and repairing barriers
- Follow proper procedures to maintain a safe environment for yourself, coworkers, and the public
- Perform daily pre- and post-operation inspections and document findings accurately
- Assist mechanics with repairs and conduct basic cleaning and servicing of equipment
- Carry out flagger duties to manage and direct traffic when required
Schedule
- Full-time employment
- Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch
- Work schedule may change due to weather and/or season
- No telework option available
Requirements
- Successful completion of the Transportation Equipment Operator Trainee Program (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
- Graduation from a Commercial Driver’s License Training School; or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training
Qualifications
- Active Pennsylvania Class A or B Commercial Driver's License or equivalent with the Air Brake (L) and Manual Transmission (E) Restrictions removed
- Ability to demonstrate successful operation of equipment with a manual transmission
- Active Medical Examiner’s Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Regulations
- Obtain an active certification issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation in the operation of heavy trucks and loaders, and two additional pieces of construction equipment, within the probationary period
- Obtain an active Tank Vehicle Endorsement (N) during the probationary period and continuously maintain it while employed in this job
- Additional certifications issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation on assigned pieces of equipment
- Ability to perform essential job functions
