PennDOT CDL Operator Trainee (Transportation Equipment Operator Trainee)

About the role

The PennDOT CDL Operator Trainee position with the Department of Transportation offers a strong path for building professional skills. This role lets you learn important equipment operations that support safe and efficient roadway maintenance.

Responsibilities

• Train to operate heavy trucks, loaders, and related construction equipment
• Follow proper safety rules, use protective equipment, and report injuries and hazards
• Complete manual labor duties using hand and power tools for maintenance work
• Learn to perform pre and post operation inspections and make basic field adjustments
• Support environmental practices through required training and daily activities
• Observe work areas, make adjustments, and report findings in written and oral format

Qualifications

• Possession of an active Pennsylvania non-commercial Class C Driver's License or equivalent
• Active Pennsylvania Class A or B Commercial Driver Learner's Permit on the first day of work
• Active Medical Examiner’s Certificate in accordance with Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Regulations by the first day of work
• Subject to Drug and Alcohol testing in accordance with Federal Regulations

Benefits

• Starting annual salary of $42,347 (before taxes)

Pay

Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $42,347 (before taxes).

Schedule

Full-time employment with work hours of 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
