PEMB Drafter

About the role

The primary responsibility of Drafter V is to deliver complete and accurate drafting outputs, including drawings, shop details, and bills of materials (BOMs) while ensuring high quality and on-time delivery aligned with customer-specific requirements. This role demands advanced technical knowledge of commercial building systems, pre-engineered metal buildings (PEMBs), detailing tools such as AutoCAD, and a deep understanding of interdepartmental processes and services.

Responsibilities

• Produce neat, accurate, and easy-to-follow fabrication documents that align with design calculations and manufacturing limitations.
• Generate precise permit, approval, and erection drawings that comply with purchase order requirements and guide material installation.
• Maintain tight project schedules, often accommodating last-minute changes or shifting priorities.
• Communicate challenges and project needs to Project Engineers, Design Engineers, and Detailers to ensure timely technical resolution.
• Respond promptly to calls, emails, and inquiries from customers, design teams, or manufacturing, ensuring minimal impact to project timelines.
• Provide expert-level solutions for field issues and generate the necessary documentation to support customer service.
• Continuously enhance productivity, accuracy, and technical expertise.
• Support and enforce drafting standards used by production detailers.
• Represent the company’s interests when investigating field modifications.
• Work overtime as needed to meet critical deadlines.
• Understand your role within the broader project system, and step beyond it when necessary.
• Give and receive back-checking comments as a key part of professional development and team collaboration.
• Coach, mentor, and train less experienced drafters.
• Partner closely with builders and manufacturing stakeholders to drive project success.
• Manage multiple complex projects through fabrication and erection phases, while balancing overlapping individual responsibilities.
• Ensure conformance with defined engineering processes and initiate corrective actions as needed to maintain compliance with quality standards.
• Lead initiatives to improve quality, drive innovation, and increase efficiency.
• Serve as a subject matter expert in the highest-level and most complex metal building designs.

Qualifications

• Drafter III: Minimum of 2 years of experience in metal building drafting. Minimum of 5 years of experience using Tekla, AutoCAD, Revit, Trimble Connect, and other detailing software. Highly detail-oriented, with demonstrated experience managing multiple projects through fabrication and erection phases. Adaptable team player with strong interpersonal communication skills. Ability to document workflows, optimize processes, and follow detailed instructions. Able to perform under pressure while complying with established procedures and guidelines. Strong mathematical and trigonometric computation skills. Proven ability to collaborate across all organizational levels. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and general PC/technology tools.
• Drafter IV: Minimum of 5 years of experience in metal building drafting. Minimum of 7 years of experience using Tekla, AutoCAD, Revit, Trimble Connect, and other detailing software. Proven experience managing multiple ongoing projects through shop production and erection completion. Detail-oriented with excellent time management and organizational skills. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment. Ability to map workflows, optimize processes, and write detailed procedural documentation. Ability to perform under pressure while adhering to defined procedures and standards. Solid understanding of technology, digital solutions, and model-based engineering practices. Strong background in process improvement and operational efficiency. Ability to interface with all levels of the organization, including cross-functional stakeholders and leadership. Strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to present to senior management. Demonstrated deep competences in mathematical and trigonometric calculations. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and general technology tools.
• Drafter V: Minimum of 7 years of experience in metal building drafting. At least 5 years of experience as a checker or quality inspector for buildings of complexity levels 1–10. Minimum of 10 years of experience using Tekla, AutoCAD, Revit, Trimble Connect, and other detailing software. Highly detail-oriented, with demonstrated ability to manage multiple concurrent projects through shop production and erection phases. Strong adaptability and effective collaboration in team-based environments. Ability to document workflows, optimize processes, and draft detailed instructions. Capable of performing under pressure while adhering to established procedures and guidelines. Solid understanding of technology, digital tools, and model-based engineering. Strong background in process improvement and continuous development. Effective communicator across all levels of the organization. Excellent organizational and multitasking skills.
