Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct care to pediatric emergency patients during overnight shifts
- Supervise and teach emergency medicine residents, pediatric residents, and medical students
- Participate in departmental quality improvement initiatives and committee activities
- Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to ensure optimal patient outcomes
- Maintain accurate and timely medical documentation
- Attend department meetings, educational conferences, and training sessions
- Assist with trauma resuscitations and critical care stabilization
- Provide consultations to other hospital departments as needed
Required Qualifications
- MD or DO degree from an accredited institution
- Board certification in Emergency Medicine or Pediatric Emergency Medicine
- Current Virginia medical license or eligibility to obtain one
- Current BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications
- Completion of an accredited Emergency Medicine or Pediatric Emergency Medicine residency
- Demonstrated ability to work in and promote an environment of respect, professionalism, and civility with individuals from diverse backgrounds—or a commitment to doing so as a VCU employee
Preferred Qualifications
- Fellowship training in Pediatric Emergency Medicine
- Experience within an academic medical center
- Proficiency with electronic medical records
- Research experience or publications
- Prior teaching experience with residents or medical students
