Pellet Mill Machine Operator

About the role

Pellet Mill Machine Operators are responsible for operating and adjusting pellet mills, monitoring and regulating material mix, and maintaining feed rates.

Responsibilities

• Operate and adjust pellet mills, and regularly monitor and adjust dryer inlet and outlet temperatures.
• Regulate material mix to achieve optimal pellet moisture and density ratios, ensuring pellets stay within specified limits.
• Communicate the ratio of fresh and old sawdust and wet and dry shavings to maintain proper moisture levels.
• Troubleshoot equipment malfunctions, spot fires, and hot bearings.
• Maintain pellet mill feed rates and adjust or change pellet mill rolls/dies as needed.
• Complete a daily report detailing temperature readings, dried material moisture, and perform density checks per specifications.
• Estimate tonnage based on daily operations.

Requirements

• A high school diploma or GED.
• One to two years of production experience in an industrial setting.
• Working knowledge of all aspects of the production process.
• Experience with process controls is a plus.
• Ability to pass company forklift certification.
• Physical requirements: able to lift up to 80 lbs waist high, stand for up to 12 hours per day, use catwalks and climb ladders up to 60 feet high, and adhere to safety standards.
• Basic mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
• Ability to perform simple math calculations.
