Job Responsibilities
The IGNITE Peer Tutor supports students enrolled in engineering and advanced programs at Midlands Technical College. Peer Tutors play a vital role in helping students master course content, strengthen technical skills, and succeed in academic and training programs. This position is designed for knowledgeable, high-performing students who demonstrate strong communication skills, a commitment to helping others, and proficiency in one or more of the engineering or industrial technology pathways supported by IGNITE. Tutors will assist students through one-on-one sessions, small-group support, scheduled lab hours, and structured academic coaching.

Key Responsibilities
- Provide tutoring in assigned engineering or industrial technology course areas, reinforcing concepts taught in class.
- Aid students in developing strong technical foundations in areas such as: Mechanical systems, Electrical systems, Robotics and automation, Mechatronics, Engineering principles, EV systems fundamentals.
- Support students in applying theoretical concepts to hands-on work.
- Help students improve study habits, note-taking skills, and exam preparation strategies.
- Maintain accurate tutoring logs and student progress notes as required by IGNITE reporting standards.
- Collaborate with IGNITE staff to ensure tutoring aligns with program goals.
- Refer students to additional campus resources when appropriate.
- Attend tutor training sessions, check-in meetings, and professional development workshops.
- Model professionalism, a strong work ethic, and a supportive learning environment.
Minimum And Additional Requirements
- Must be currently enrolled in a 2-year or 4-year college institution and be pursuing a degree in Engineering disciplines or Mechatronics.
- Successful completion (grade A) of the course(s) you wish to tutor, or faculty recommendation.
- Strong understanding of engineering and/or technical coursework.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
- Commitment to confidentiality, professionalism, and student success.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience helping peers or mentoring in an academic or technical environment.
- Familiarity with hands-on lab environments and safety procedures.
