Responsibilities

  • Mentor individuals in recovery by reassuring individuals about the reality of the recovery process, promote personal empowerment, and set and achieve goals via a consumer developed recovery plan
  • Coordinate and facilitate recovery related groups as needed to address symptoms and behaviors through processes that assist an individual
  • Support development of Life Skills as needed such as budgeting, and connecting to community resources
  • Model personal responsibility for recovery
  • Teach skills to effectively navigate the health care delivery system to effectively and efficiently utilize services
  • Assist with accessing and developing natural support systems in the community
  • Promote coordination and linkage among providers
  • Conduct outreach as needed
  • Crisis intervention and stabilization as needed
  • Attend and participate in treatment team, department and agency meetings as required
  • Aid in the development of empowerment skills through self-advocacy and activities that mitigate discrimination and inspire hope

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent required
  • Must have and maintain Ohio MHAS Certified Peer Recovery Support certification in good standing
  • Must possess valid Ohio driver's license and a driving record that does not preclude the employee from being covered by Agency liability insurance
  • Be able to pass an FBI/BCI background check

Qualifications

  • Self-identifies as being in recovery from a mental illness or a substance use disorder

Skills

  • Understanding of systems of care, natural support systems, entitlements and benefits, crisis response, medications, culture, trauma informed care, diversity competence, human trafficking, and peer recovery services
  • Knowledge of characteristics of populations served as it relates to symptoms, medications, culture, age, gender, sexual orientation and human development
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Able to effectively work with Agency employees, outside contacts, and a diverse client population

Schedule

Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-the-area and overnight travel may be expected for training purposes.
