Responsibilities
- Supports program participants in recovery from mental health and/or substance use disorder.
- Provides a model for both people in recovery and staff by demonstrating that recovery is possible.
- Aids in identifying personal interests, goals, strengths, and barriers to recovery for program participants.
- Facilitates connections between clients and community-based support resources, behavioral health services, and other ancillary services.
- Delivers recovery education to program participants and their family members/support persons throughout their recovery journey.
- Maintains collaborative relationships with community groups and agencies.
- Collects and distributes community-based recovery group meeting materials and schedules as needed.
- Maintains documentation, logs, reports, and records of client interactions and services provided in appropriate files and databases.
Requirements
- High School diploma or GED required.
- Strong working knowledge of the drug and alcohol treatment system and a demonstrated commitment to the recovery community.
- Knowledge and training to provide a trauma-informed approach using trauma-specific interventions within one year of hire.
- Certification as a Certified Peer Support Specialist/Peer Recovery Coach from an approved curriculum.
- Security clearance through the Salt Lake County Jail.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of basic structure of the criminal justice system.
- Understanding of community resources for substance abuse treatment and recovery support.
- Knowledge of state and federal mandates related to substance abuse recovery.
- Understanding of the signs and effects of substance abuse on individuals and families.
Skills and Abilities
- Ability to build rapport with clients and engage them in case management.
- Compliance with Utah Peer Support Specialist Code of Ethics & CPSS Core Competencies.
- Confidentiality and adherence to ethical standards.
- Development of supportive relationships with diverse populations.
- Ability to maintain a calm demeanor while working with potentially distressed individuals.
- Effective communication skills with various stakeholders.
- Use of computer office equipment relevant to job duties.
