Peer Support Specialist

About the role

The Peer Support Specialist (PSS) promotes consumer engagement in therapy with clinicians, involvement and engagement with wellness services and recovery support, and engagement with primary care; conducts rapid screening for communicable disease, completes all tracking and reporting requirements for outcomes and evaluation and documents services provided; and assists clients in a variety of ways – sharing of personal recovery stories, resource acquisition, etc.

Responsibilities

• Conducts rapid screening for communicable disease
• Completes all tracking and reporting requirements for outcomes and evaluation
• Documents services provided
• Assists clients in a variety of ways – sharing of personal recovery stories, resource acquisition, etc.
• Works directly with the Opioid Treatment Programming staff and CHC Treatment providers to ensure continuity of care
• Engages in a team approach in the provision of services with treatment providers, and support services

Requirements

• Diploma/Equivalent or higher, combined with knowledge of wellness and recovery-based concepts
• Lived experiences with mental health and/or substance use disorders and at least 18 months of recovery
• Completed or willing to complete the Peer Support Specialist Certification Program

• Required educational/experiential qualifications as stated above
