Peer Support Specialist

Responsibilities

• Aid clients in defining their recovery goals through individual and group sessions.
• Collaborate with clients and their case managers to outline steps towards achieving these goals.
• Help clients establish and maintain mutual support groups and find existing groups.
• Provide immediate crisis intervention when needed.
• Administer relevant screenings when applicable.
• Share personal experiences and coping strategies with clients.
• Work with clients and treatment team members to create a tailored treatment/recovery plan.
• Facilitate peer-support groups.
• Refer clients to appropriate mental health services.
• Offer transportation to clients for appointments at CBWF.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• At least five years of experience working with individuals with mental health histories.
• Ability to relate to the target population through lived experience.
• Preference for bilingual candidates.

Skills & Abilities

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Effective working with diverse populations in a community setting.
• Knowledge of local community agencies and resources.
• Experience working in a community-based setting for at least one to two years.
• Good communication skills, including active listening and appropriate language use.

Working Conditions

• Normal workweek schedule from Monday through Friday, 8:00-5:00 PM.
• Up to 25% travel required.
• Potential for evening and weekend shifts for support groups and events.
• Occasional on-call availability for crisis clients.
