Peer Specialist, Jackson Community Mental Health Center, Full-Time, Days

About the role

The Peer Specialist works as a member of the clinical and therapeutic team, under the direction of the program director. The primary responsibility of the Peer Specialist is to assist with linkage to mental health treatment and supportive services for adults with severe mental illnesses who are currently receiving services in the Program.

Responsibilities

• Performs as a role model providing consumers with resource information that will help facilitate community functioning and promote and support recovery and resiliency behaviors.
• Promotes and supports positive communication amongst peers and peers with staff.
• Provides peer-to-peer educational guidance and other consumer driven activities.
• Aids individuals in developing and achieving their goals.
• Reports to Program Director for supervision.
• Participates actively in meetings at program.
• Works with individuals in the inpatient and outpatient setting to assist them in developing skills necessary to work on recovery goals.
• Aids peer members in maintaining stability and sustaining their recovery.
• (Activities to include but not limited to conducting WRAP training and peer support group).
• Demonstrates behaviors of service excellence and CARE values (Compassion, Accountability, Respect and Expertise).

Requirements

• Generally requires 3 to 5 years of related experience.
• A high school diploma is required.
• A valid license or certification is required as needed, based on the job or specialty.
• A Jackson Health System unit-specific credential, AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) with 6 months validity, is required.
