About the Role

The Peer Specialist role provides individual peer support to clients experiencing mental health and/or substance use conditions by using lived experience to promote recovery, offer advocacy, and deliver trauma-informed support. The position contributes to an interdisciplinary team by providing insight, guidance, and support that helps individuals navigate their recovery, build coping skills, and achieve personal goals.

RHD Glassport is a program for people with behavioral health issues who are transitioning into the community. The program provides supportive services to help enhance residents' lives while maintaining stable mental health. The goal is to facilitate and promote independence and improve quality of life.

Responsibilities

  • Provide peer support to individuals with mental health and/or substance use conditions
  • Use lived experience to support individuals in their recovery journey
  • Assist clients with developing coping skills and wellness strategies
  • Facilitate peer recovery support groups
  • Support individuals in achieving personal goals (housing, employment, community integration)
  • Assist in developing and implementing person-centered treatment plans
  • Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings
  • Provide advocacy and support for individuals receiving services
  • Assist clients in preparing for recovery plan meetings and expressing their needs
  • Provide education to team members on recovery-oriented care and peer support principles
  • Engage clients through outreach and ongoing support
  • Provide crisis intervention services as scheduled
  • Assist in completing assessments and wellness plans

Qualifications

  • Certified Peer Recovery Specialist (CPRS) Certification
  • High School Diploma or GED preferred
  • CPR and First Aid certification
  • Experience working with underserved populations preferred
  • Experience supporting individuals with mental health, substance use, or co-occurring disorders
  • Valid driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record
