About the role
The Peer Recovery Specialist at Highlands Community Services (HCS) in Abingdon, VA works with adults and adolescents diagnosed with Schizophrenia and related disorders to achieve and maintain recovery within the Navigate Program.
Responsibilities
- Provide support and guidance to individuals in recovery
- Facilitate group sessions and activities
- Collaborate with other professionals to develop and implement individualized treatment plans
- Assist with program development and improvement
Requirements
- High School Diploma/GED
- Peer Recovery Specialist Certification required but can be completed after hire
- Lived experience and a minimum of one (1) year of recovery from a mental health condition
Qualifications
- Experience working with individuals in recovery from mental health conditions
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Knowledge of mental health recovery principles
- Ability to build rapport and trust with clients

Pay
$16.00 - $17.50 per hour, commensurate with education/experience
Schedule
Part-time (20 -29 hours), Non-exempt, Tuesday & Thursday 8:30am – 5:00pm & Wednesday 8:30am – 12:00pm. Schedule flexibility available.
