Duties/Responsibilities
- Embrace, support and implement Community Healing Center's vision and values related to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- Provide appropriate services/supports to peers.
- Serve as a consumer advocate and provide peer support for consumers in a variety of settings.
- Aid in the recovery process by assisting clinical staff in the provision of jail services.
- Support culturally competent, recovery-based practices, person-centered planning, and a trauma-informed culture.
- Provide information, training, and advocacy for peers, families, providers, and staff.
- Participate in peer community and model a recovery-based lifestyle.
- Lend unique insight into substance abuse and/or mental illness and what makes recovery possible.
- Assist with the development of services for stakeholder groups receiving services.
- Create and facilitate a variety of group activities that support and strengthen recovery.
- Participate in necessary support/trainings specific to Peer Support services.
- Prepare/submit reports in accordance with state, agency, referral, and CARF program requirements.
- Assist in obtaining authorization for Recovery Coach Services.
- Maintain professional relationships with referral sources.
Qualifications/Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED, required.
- Completion of State training - Connecticut Community for Addiction Recovery (CCAR), required.
- Experiential knowledge of the recovery process and current stable recovery required.
- Knowledge of 12-step programs required.
- MCBAP (Michigan Certification Board for Addiction Professionals) certification or ability to obtain MCBAP certification, preferred.
- Project Assert Certification or ability to obtain, preferred.
- Direct contact with alcohol and drug abusers including individuals that may use injectable drugs.
- Injectable drug abusers are at elevated risk for tuberculosis infection and other illnesses. All staff are required to be screened for tuberculosis and understand that exposure to tuberculosis is possible.
- Flu and Covid-19 Vaccines, required.
- Covid-19 booster, preferred.
