About the role

The Health Care Technician II (S) is responsible for conducting unit orientation, on-the-job precepting, providing one-on-one support, and completing unit-based non-nursing procedure checklists for new HCTs. They assist the Unit Nurse Manager and Floor-Shift Supervisors in maintaining a safe, sanitary, and homelike environment for residents, visitors, and staff. Additionally, they may schedule and lead unit-based leisure activities for residents and assist in scheduling and monitoring staff.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct unit orientation and on-the-job precepting for new HCTs
  • Provide direct observations and identify needed remedial development for new staff
  • Maintain a safe, sanitary, and homelike environment for residents, visitors, and staff
  • Auxiliary support to the Unit Nurse Supervisor in scheduling HCT I resident case assignments, monitoring implementation of care plans, and reviewing HCT I documentation
  • Schedule and lead unit-based leisure activities for residents
  • Assist the Unit Nurse Manager in scheduling staff according to minimum staff ratios, filing resource needs, and preventing staff shortages
  • May be responsible for scheduling and setting up unit-based leisure activities for residents
  • May assist the Unit Nurse Supervisor in scheduling HCT I resident case assignments, monitoring implementation of care plans, and reviewing HCT I documentation
  • May assist the Unit Nurse Manager in scheduling staff according to minimum staff ratios, filing resource needs, and preventing staff shortages

Requirements

  • High school or GED diploma and one year of related work experience
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Listing as a Nurse Aide I by the North Carolina Division of Health Service Regulation
  • Listing as a Nurse Aide II by the North Carolina Board of Nursing
  • North Carolina Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification

Qualifications

Knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • Considerable knowledge of approved behavioral intervention programs and the needs of the population served
  • Considerable knowledge of appropriate protocols for medication administration and possible side effects
  • Considerable knowledge of training principles
  • Ability to train and mentor adults in group and one-on-one settings
  • Ability to effectively convey information to family members, individuals, and treatment teams
  • Ability to document clear and concise notes of client progress and behaviors
