About the role

We provide respiratory care treatment, oxygen services, diagnostic testing, and ventilation support services to patients ranging from neonatal to geriatric. The Respiratory Therapist (CRT or RRT) sets up, monitors, and weans oxygen therapy and artificial ventilation. They also draw, analyze, and report arterial blood gases and EKGs, deliver intermittent therapy, and assist with changing artificial airways. Services are provided as ordered by a physician and in accordance with established policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Performs routine and advanced therapeutic procedures according to established policy and procedure.
  • Reviews and documents all clinical information regarding each patient.
  • Educates patients and co-workers on procedures and treatment plans.
  • Performs diagnostic procedures.
  • Provides care based on physical, psycho/social, educational, safety, and related criteria, appropriate to the age of patient served in assigned area.
  • Adapts behavior to the specific patient population, including but not limited to: respect for privacy, method of introduction to the patient, adapting explanation of services or procedures to be performed, requesting permissions, and communication style.
  • Other related duties as required.

Requirements

This job requires a current license as a Respiratory Therapist in the state of practice and certification by the National Board of Respiratory Care as a Registered Respiratory Therapist. Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association is also required, with Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) to be obtained within 90 days of hire.

    Physical and Environmental Demands

    The physical demands of this job include very heavy work, requiring the ability to lift and move objects weighing up to 100 pounds occasionally, and up to 50 pounds frequently. The job also requires prolonged sitting, standing, stooping, bending, reaching, and grabbing with arms and hands. The incumbent works in a patient care area, works with patients directly, and may be exposed to blood, body fluids, and tissues.
