PEDS INPATIENT - REGISTERED NURSE

About the Role

Provides care to patients using a patient and family-centered model for patients who are newborn up to 18 years of age, including patient and family education while ensuring adherence to professional standards and Idaho Falls Community Hospital (IFCH) policies, procedures, and guidelines. Communicates effectively and works cooperatively with co-workers, physicians, and nurse managers regarding changes in patient’s condition, including results of diagnostic studies and symptomology. Responds quickly and accurately to changes in patient condition or response to treatment.

Responsibilities

• Perform head-to-toe assessments on all patients and reassessments as per policy.
• Adequately assess and reassess pain using the appropriate pain scale based on the patient’s age and developmental stage; utilize appropriate pain management techniques and educate the patient and family regarding pain management.
• Revise the plan of care as indicated by the patient’s response to treatment and evaluate the overall plan daily for effectiveness.
• Perform glucometer testing (point-of-care testing), read and take appropriate action on glucometer test results per Clinical Laboratory’s and the patient care unit’s policies and procedures.
• Perform patient care responsibilities considering needs specific to the standard of care for the patient’s age, providing care in a patient and family-centered manner.
• Administer medications correctly based on the weight/age of the patient and their clinical condition, following the five medication rights to reduce the potential for medication errors.
• Provide age-appropriate education based on identified learning needs and evaluate the effectiveness of learning for both patients and families.
• Assist physicians with procedures and perform services and treatments requiring technical and manual skills within scope of practice and per policy.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited RN program.
• Current, unencumbered RN licensure in the state of Idaho.
• Current BLS certification.
• Successful completion of PALS and ACLS courses required within 6 months of hire.
• Previous pediatric experience preferred.
