Pediatric Trauma Advanced Practice Provider Fellowship - Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant
About the role
This Fellowship is a 12-month opportunity for a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to obtain invaluable education and clinical experience in trauma and acute surgical care at Primary Children's Hospital, a level I trauma center located in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Responsibilities
- Managing trauma/general surgery patients on the floor and in the PICU
- Leading trauma resuscitations and massive transfusions in the trauma bay/OR/PICU/floor
- Completing Emergency Department consultations
- Assisting in the operating room on occasion
- Rotating through Neurosurgery, Orthopedics, Plastic Surgery, Radiology, Pharmacy, and outpatient subspecialty clinics
- Participating in didactic and clinical competencies
- Engaging in a clinical research project culminating in a presentation and abstract for publication
- Functioning under the medical supervision of advanced practice providers and physicians on their respective rotations
- Engaging in overnight call shifts to offer ample clinical experience and high acuity patient exposure
Requirements
- Current state license as a Physician Assistant (PA) or Nurse Practitioner (APRN) at time of program start
- Certification as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant
- Eligible for state Controlled Substance License II through V
- Eligible for Federal DEA Certificate II through V
- Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification for healthcare providers
- Current ACLS Certification
- Other certifications as required (e.g. TNCC, NRP)
- Masters degree or higher preferred
Qualifications
- Current state license as an Advance Practice Registered Nurse (APRN)
- Certification as a Nurse Practitioner
- OR
- Current state license as a Physician Assistant
- Certification from a recognized certifying organization such as the National Commission of Physician Assistants
- Applicable experience as defined by position leadership
- Eligible for State Controlled Substance License II through V
- Eligible for Federal DEA Certificate II through V
- BLS Certification for Healthcare Providers
- Other certifications as required (e.g. ACLS, PALS, TNCC, NRP)
- Certification from a recognized certifying organization such as the NCCPA for physician assistants or the ANCC or AANP for nurse practitioners

Pay
Base Annual Salary: $79,851.20
Schedule
The schedule will be rotating depending on which service you are following. There will be a combination of days, nights, weekends, and holidays. There may be 12 hour shifts or 24 hour shifts. On average the Fellow can anticipate working 48-60+ hours per week depending on which service they are with.

Physical Requirements
- Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies.
- Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations.
- Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient care, accessing needed information, medication preparation, etc.
- Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients. Will also bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment. Typically includes items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items.
- Need to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment. This includes pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment, including heavy items.
- Often required to navigate crowded and busy rooms (full of equipment, power cords on the floor, etc.). May be expected to stand in a stationary position for an extended period.
