Gillette Children’s is seeking an on-call pediatric speech language pathologist to work on inpatient rehab, ortho, and neuro units. The successful candidate will provide intermittent weekend coverage on the inpatient units (a combination of 12 Saturdays and business closure days per calendar year) and may occasionally work weekdays to cover vacations or other needs.

About the Role

Provides direct and indirect family-centered therapy services for patients to increase functional abilities, independence, and community integration. Contributes to department, program, and service teams to ensure achievement of desired outcomes. Therapists will spend the majority of their workday in direct patient care while completing same-day documentation and related indirect patient care.

Responsibilities

  • Completes evaluations utilizing principles of family-centered care.
  • Designs assessments consistent with goals of evaluation, provider orders, patient/family input, and priorities.
  • Obtains necessary history and background information.
  • Selects evaluation methods, tools, and environments to obtain valid and reliable assessments specific to the patient’s age, developmental status, neurological, musculoskeletal, cardiopulmonary, cognitive, and behavioral status.
  • Administers evaluations consistent with best practices and Gillette competencies.
  • Interprets evaluation results for the patient/family and seeks their assessment of reliability and validity.
  • Makes recommendations for treatment, referrals, equipment, resources, and home/community-based activities.
  • Documents and bills for evaluations based on guidelines provided by the Gillette Children’s Specialty Healthcare Rehabilitation Therapies Revenue Cycle Team.

Requirements

  • Speech Language Pathology State License.
  • Pending credentials: Registration and licensure pending (not to exceed three months in this status) and completion of CFY for Speech Language Pathology.
  • Current certification in CPR (BLS for Healthcare Providers through American Heart Association) or must obtain within 90 days of hire.
  • Competency in speech language pathology evaluation, treatment, and related family/community education and planning for transition to community services.

Qualifications

  • Preferred: ASHA Certification.
  • Preferred: Pediatric experience.
  • Preferred: Feeding clinic experience.
  • Preferred: Experience with AAC devices, including programming.

Skills

  • Knowledge of child growth and development, rehabilitation theory, and practice for childhood-onset diagnoses.
  • Understanding of anatomy, neurology, emotional/behavioral factors, family needs, community transition, and equipment.
  • Effective verbal and written communication.
  • Ability to function as an effective team member.
  • Excellent customer service skills.

Pay

The hourly wage for this opportunity is $36.28 to $54.43, with a median wage of $45.35/hour. Pay depends on relevant work experience, education, certification, licensure, and internal equity. Weekend ($1.75) and evening ($2.35) differentials are available for this position.
