PEDIATRIC PSYCHOLOGY (PER DIEM)
About the Role
Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital is seeking a motivated and dynamic Pediatric Psychologist to join its growing Psychology Department in a per diem (staff relief) capacity. Opportunities are available for candidates with experience in inpatient consultation-liaison work with pediatric patients and their families in an acute pediatric medical environment.
Typical inpatient consult referrals include acute and chronic pain, functional neurologic disorder, GI complaints, psychogenic events, feeding/eating issues, trauma, adjustment to new medical diagnoses, depression, anxiety, behavioral challenges, ingestion/suicide attempts, and end-of-life issues.
Responsibilities
- Assessment and ongoing treatment of patients throughout their inpatient hospital stay.
- Collaborating with treatment team members to formulate clinical intervention and referring patients to other disciplines for consult and evaluation as indicated.
- Providing support and education to the patient’s family.
- Providing psychological expertise and education to a multidisciplinary team of professionals.
- Acting as a resource to other disciplines on patient and behavioral problems related to various psychological disorders.
- Developing and providing education to both hospital staff and the community when available.
Requirements
- Doctoral degree (PhD or PsyD) from an APA-accredited program.
- Licensed (or license eligible) in the state of Florida.
- Completion of an APA-accredited internship and fellowship in pediatric psychology is desired.
Schedule
Work schedule is variable to meet the staff relief needs of the department, with a desire for coverage at minimum on Mondays.

About Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital
Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital is a 216-bed free-standing children’s hospital in Hollywood, Broward County, Florida, located near Fort Lauderdale. The hospital recently underwent a 4-story vertical expansion to double the number of floors, continuing its commitment to providing the highest quality and safest care for children in the region. This expansion, completed in November 2022, includes a state-of-the-art Pediatric ICU, a new 20-bed cardiac ICU and step-down unit with hybrid-capable ORs, three cath labs, and an interventional radiology suite. The hospital also expanded its surgical capacity with additional new rooms and an inter-operative MRI.
Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital is one of six hospitals within Memorial Healthcare System, the third-largest public health system in the country. Memorial delivers nearly 14,000 babies per year across three hospitals and has 120 Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) beds, offering both Level II and III services (qualifying for Florida’s upcoming Level IV designation).
JDCH has robust high-risk and congenital programs, including a U.S. News & World Report-ranked Pediatric Cardiology and Heart Surgery Program—one of only two active programs in the state performing heart transplants. JDCH’s Orthopedic and Sports Medicine program is also ranked by U.S. News & World Report as the top pediatric orthopedic program in Florida for four consecutive years and is one of the largest programs in the southeastern United States. Additional specialties include Neurosciences, Hematology/Oncology, and other general and specialized surgical programs (approximately 10,000 surgeries per year). JDCH operates the area’s largest pediatric and neonatal transport team, which also provides mobile ECMO.
JDCH houses the Center for Complex Care, a joint alliance with Boston Children’s Hospital, and serves over 375,000 children annually from across the state. Approximately 100,000 children are cared for in its three emergency rooms each year. JDCH’s services continue to expand with the 2018 opening of a specialty center/ambulatory surgery center in Palm Beach County and a new ambulatory pavilion in Miramar, near Miami-Dade County, set to open in 2023.
