HealthcareVolunteer

Akron Children's Hospital is dedicated to building a diverse workforce — one that reflects our patient population and represents the communities we serve.

About the role

The Division of Pediatric Psychology at Akron Children's Hospital (ACH) is seeking to grow our team with several Pediatric Psychologist positions. Opportunities to specialize in one or more areas of pediatric subspecialty medicine exist based on candidates' interest and expertise:

  • Behavioral Sleep Medicine. Join an established and growing multidisciplinary team in the AASM-accredited sleep center. Evaluate and treat behavioral sleep concerns including insomnia, nightmare disorders, nighttime fears, circadian rhythm disorders, parasomnias, and concerns with sleep quality (e.g., compliance for treatment of sleep apnea, restless leg syndrome). Embedded within the outpatient Sleep Center, close collaboration with medical and behavioral health team members is encouraged.
  • Palliative Care. Our nationally recognized palliative care program serves children with complex, chronic, or serious medical conditions, enhancing quality of life. The program provides specialized care for children and adolescents with serious illnesses, including genetic disorders, cancer, prematurity, neurologic disorders, heart and lung conditions, as well as adults treated through the Pediatric and Adult Burn Unit. The role is highly integrated into a multidisciplinary team including pediatric palliative care physicians, nursing, social work, bereavement coordinator, chaplaincy, child life specialists, and expressive and developmental therapists.
  • Epilepsy. Collaborate with neurology and neurosurgery for patients in treatment for seizure and epilepsy diagnoses, focusing on adjustment to the diagnosis and adherence to medical recommendations, including ketogenic diet. Opportunities include both inpatient and outpatient care, including consultation for patients being evaluated for epilepsy surgeries. Program development in establishing psychology involvement in epilepsy clinics and community outreach in partnering with local support groups is also available.
  • Oncology. Embedded within our oncology division, this role offers the opportunity to join an established and growing Pediatric Oncology service. The psychologist will have close collaboration with our large team, including medical providers, nurses, physical/occupational therapists.
