Pediatric Nurse Practitioner - Radiology

We are searching for a motivated Nurse Practitioner to work in an exciting pediatric setting, providing developmentally appropriate health maintenance for well children, episodic care for ill children, and comprehensive care for children with chronic conditions.

Texas Children’s Hospital The Woodlands is north Houston’s first true, free-standing pediatric hospital designed, equipped, and staffed exclusively to provide care in more than 25 specialty areas for children and adolescents. Facilities include 24 emergency center rooms, outpatient exam rooms, radiology rooms, operating rooms, acute care beds, and a pediatric intensive care unit (PICU).

Responsibilities

• Use advanced practice knowledge and skills to systematically collect and evaluate health assessment data and manage patients' caseload.
• Obtain a comprehensive health, developmental, and family history on patients as documented in the medical record.
• Assess the patient’s physical status through physical examination and document findings in the medical record.
• Differentiate between normal and abnormal findings as documented in the patient’s medical record.
• Perform or recommend age-appropriate health screening procedures.
• Provide health maintenance and health promotion for children of all ages.
• Perform and evaluate diagnostic procedures and laboratory tests.
• Analyze multiple sources of data and formulate a differential diagnosis in collaboration with physicians.
• Follow established delegation protocols to manage specific patient problems.
• Formulate a plan of care in collaboration with other healthcare professionals and document it in the patient’s medical record.
• Evaluate patient’s responses to interventions and modify the plan of care as needed.
• Present and document the data, impression, and plan of care accurately for all patients.
• Demonstrate effective communication skills and work to eliminate communication barriers.
• Collaborate effectively with other healthcare disciplines to provide comprehensive care.
• Utilize effective and appropriate interviewing skills to elicit information from patients and/or family and collaborate with them in developing the care plan.
• Request consultation and/or initiate referral for specialized care as appropriate.
• Communicate with healthcare team members regarding comprehensive assessment, impression, and plan of care.
• Serve as an educational resource for patients, families, the community, and other healthcare professionals.
• Apply new knowledge relevant to pediatric nursing to clinical practice.
• Demonstrate current professional, managerial, and/or technical knowledge and skills.
• Maintain knowledge base by reading professional literature, attending staff development, and continuing education programs annually.
• Participate in department and hospital committees to promote quality nursing care as assigned.
• Demonstrate NP role behaviors consistent with the development of advanced nursing practice.
• Participate in the departmental Quality Improvement program annually.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in nursing required.
• RN license from the Texas Board of Nursing or Nursing Licensure Compact required.
• Nurse practitioner with radiology experience preferred.
• FNP, NNP, PNP-BC, WHNP-BC, CPNP-AC, or AG-ACNP certification from the Texas Board of Nursing required.
